Core Self Reclamation Therapy
I am working in concert with SueAnne Piliero, my partner, to crystallize, formulate, expand upon and promote a model of therapy she has been developing over the past two decades. The therapy invokes a Tripartite Conception of the Self that is created in the wake of trauma. The therapeutic stance is one of Fierce Love in which the therapist boldly mirrors the patient’s Core Self in order to help the Present-Day Self free itself from its bound up position in the Wounded Self. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Acceptance
The paradox of change, is that it begins with acceptance. Trying to resist or avoid psychic distress only makes it stronger. Our minds are tangled maps of associations and memories, but it is possible to chart a new course, and make new pathways. It all starts with acceptance.
Internal Family Systems
The Self has parts that protect it. A good therapist can make those parts feel safe enough to step aside so the true Self can step forward. One of the many distinctions between Core Self Reclamation Therapy and IFS is we do not conceive of the Self as a multiplicity of parts. There are Child Parts that are created in trauma, but once healed they don’t persist as parts.
Attachment Theory
Our view of the world is profoundly influenced by the original relationship with our caregivers. The right therapist can give you a feeling of secure attachment so that you will have the courage to explore yourself and the world anew.
